OpenAI announces at DevDay that ChatGPT will show third-party apps inside conversations
OpenAI is opening ChatGPT to other companies' apps.
At its DevDay on September 29, OpenAI unveiled plugin extensions (the add-ons that connect ChatGPT to other companies' tools). With them, a company can give its plugin a place in the ChatGPT sidebar, with interactive panels for working alongside the conversation and viewers for the file types its product uses. The example OpenAI shows features Canva.
They are available on all plans. On the web version, they will arrive soon for ChatGPT Free and Go users, according to the developer documentation.
How people find these plugins is also changing: OpenAI is improving recommendations in its directory and within conversations themselves. Each user chooses which plugins to use and approves the access each one gets.
And with "Sign in with ChatGPT", anyone on the Plus or Pro plan can now use what their plan includes in 16 partner tools, such as Notion, Vercel or Cognition's Devin, and set a weekly limit for each one. Signing in with a ChatGPT account is available worldwide; using the plan works only on Plus and Pro and in the participating tools.
OpenAI cites 1.2 billion weekly users. We think that, for any company with a digital product, ChatGPT is becoming one more place where its customers can find it and use it without leaving the conversation.
